PORTA is in an exciting and historic waterfront location.
As a developing area, Leith is fast becoming a lively cultural district, with a number of popular and Michelin Star restaurants and drinking spots.
PORTA itself benefits from great views over the estuary and out to the North Sea.
The riverside water of Leith walkway and Leith walk is a busy street with food and thrift shops, which links the area with Edinburgh city centre.
HOME OF THE ROYAL YACHT BRITANNIA
The Royal Yacht Britannia is a number one day out on Tripadvisor and a must-see Edinburgh landmark, visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. Access to the yacht is through PORTA.
PORT OF LEITH Distillery
The Port of Leith distillery will be the first vertical distillery
in Scotland. Edinburgh has an incredibly rich whisky heritage, and the distillery will be a major new landmark for Leith and the Edinburgh area. The building will include a lab space, a number of flexible spaces that can be used for exhibitions and the core of the building will be a vertical production process with a unique experience for visitors. All of this will be encased in a beautiful, bold and modern building sitting on Leith’s waterfront – a beacon for cruise ships entering the port.
The Ocean Point hotel will be located in the heart of the Leith docks area in Edinburgh. An exciting addition to the regenerated waterfront destination.
A new tramline extension planned, will connect Leith to Edinburgh city centre, giving people a direct link between the two centres and also out to the airport. This connection will help to drive the Leith regeneration and bring residents and tourists out from Edinburgh to Leith shore and docks.
Plans for 700 new homes in the Leith area reflect the direction the area is heading as the area continues to become more and more vibrant.
Port Leith is an important destination for Northern Europe’s ship cruising industry. The port handles around 40 cruise vessels and 20,000 passengers annually.
